She played the character of the title narrator in the Teen Drama series Gossip Girl, reprising the role in the sequel in 2021. Bell was also on the show as Jeannie van der Hooven, the female lead on the Showtime comedy series House of Lies. Bell played Eleanor Shellstrop, the leading role on the critically acclaimed NBC comedy show The Good Place. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Bell was also the character of Eleanor Shellstrop in the streaming show The Woman in the Home The Girl in the Window Across the Street Girl in the Window.
