Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish and the year 2016 featured four. The popularity of Despacito peaked in 2017. In 2020 there will be 41 primarily Spanish songs will be included in the top 100. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton performers were lamenting their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation namely Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted procedure.
